What products can I use to get my vehicle self-contained under the new green warrant

After almost a hundred inspections, I've seen several different ways of complying with the new green warrant regulations and rules. There are positive and negative aspects to each method.

My honest opinion and experience tell me if it seems wrong to you it probably is.

As a disclaimer every inspector has a right to disagree with different rules and if something complies or not. Talk to your inspector and discuss different options or get their thoughts.

Toilets -

Figuring out how to fix the toilet can be frustrating, but there are many options for different toilets.

Fix a Potty - Not everyone accepts this but it is a simple way to fix a toilet and works well.

Rail Systems - Fix n Rail - I've only seen one but it looked great.

Screwed base - Some Toilets have an external shell so you simply need to screw this down to the floor. Use solid screws

Home-made options - I've seen a few well-built homemade options. Simple L brackets from Mitre 10 or Bunnings can be used. Check the weight capacity and make sure what you're screwing into can support that weight. Figure out how you can fully support the base and how to fix the base to the vehicle. The big thing about this is you must show the inspector it can hold the weight. Use product sheets, or websites to show the weight capacity.

Grey Water Tanks.

25L containers are the easiest way to make sure you comply for 2 people. Keep it simple. So many options for these but these would be my recommendations.

I don't have a specific 25L container I'd recommend. The shape is the most important for your space. Having a big screw cap makes it easier to empty, and I'd put my sink hose/pipe through the lid and my vent connection close enough to reach through the hole.

If you want a simple secure, watertight connection for connecting to threads "tank connectors" are great. Simply search tank connector. A 20mm connector can go directly into a hose fitting and that becomes your external vent. You need to run your hose externally and at the end have a mesh. I carry a roll which cost $8 to give customers because its annoying to find small amounts and lots of people don't have it.

Cost wise roughly in order. $12, $5, $12, $10. All up $39

For $1.50 an elbow get yourself some 13mm elbows and use these to avoid kinks. Also, spend the pocket change for clips and tidy your hoses up.

Sink into Grey Water Tanks.

You will need a mechanical connection from the bottom of your sink to the wastewater grey tank. Watertight. Easy to use. Capped for transporting it to a dump station. No Glue is required for this recommended setup and super flexible, minimal tools required and super simple.

As a plumber, I recommend 40mm or 32mm minimum. A trap holds water and stops smells coming back into your vehicle. lots of options but this one is the most common, cheapest and better than a loop in the pipe.

So many options available but this is your home on wheels so don't cut corners and use proper plumbing fittings for this gear.

You may have to cut the end of the above tank connector but you can get the 40mm threaded ones.

 Costs - $20, $20, $35, $15, $5. All up $95

Sink

Single Bowl Sink & Drainer

I've seen a range of options for this too. From plastic bowls to luxury top-mounted basins. You need to be able to use it for its purpose, washing dishes and personal hygiene. Nothing too difficult. I recommend a silicone seal.

Fresh water

The easy thing people miss is having a breather on your water tank. No need to externally vent this. Prevent spills by having a riser or a 90 angle.

The real plumbing begins - moving water from one place to another.

There are a lot of guides on this ranging from the simplest hand pump with a hose into the supply tank like above through to hot and cold water systems with mixer valves and pumps. I'll look at building this section later but secure your hoses with hose clamps at the least. Your hole in the tank should be snug and tank-capped.
